What I Bought This Month: My Winter Wardrobe

I began this month intending to save for a car. But turns out, cars are expensive. And I'm not that patient. In my defence I did brutally purge my closet at the start of the month, and sold a bunch of clothes online or at a local market. And the weather got colder, so I needed some jumpers and layering pieces. Shopping was necessary.

And in the case of this month, that shopping was going to be thrift shopping. The urge to thrift comes in waves for me. I love the sustainable benefits and it's certainly kinder to my bank account. I picked up a silk scarf at a local independent commission store that specialises in branded and vintage items and have quickly become obsessed. I have been seeing these scarves all around the fashion world for a while, but never in such a unique pattern -- an Indigenous line design. In the past week I've worn it   as a top, headband and tied around my handbag strap, trying to sneak it into as many outfits as possible. Then, on a weekend getaway to Canberra over Easter I spontaneously visited a vinyl and vintage store and came across some good bargains: a silver slip dress and two pairs of earrings. The earrings in particular are great because they were inexpensive so it won't be a tragedy is I lose them, and they're simple enough to match a lot of the clothes in my wardrobe but interesting enough to be a point of difference. The silver dress also tempted me with its simple cut that would be great for layering but usual tone (please ignore the extremely wrinkly photo).

Despite  the status quo of only wearing white in the warmer seasons I was compelled toybut this pair of Rollas' white dusters on sale from General Pants. I'd been hunting for jeans in this style for a really long time, but could never find any in stock or in my price range so I was ready to give up when i came across the last pair in the store one afternoon - it must have been fate. The only issue is they are a tad too long so I'm questioning whether to chop the hems or just continue to cuff them. Fate struck once again when I came across the Public Desire sneakers pictured in the bottom left corner. They're my first pair of dad sneakers! I was very hesitant at first but since adding them to my collection I've worn them non-stop and I can't even begin to explain how comfortable they are.

So, as I said before, going into this month I had zero jumpers, and in Tasmania that really is a recipe for disaster. This month I bought an oversized woollen green and white striped knit from Princess Polly. I was drawn to this because of the fit and also the minty shade of green, which is my favourite colour at the moment. It's a bit difficult to style because the sleeves are so big and throw ogf my silhouette but I love a challenge and am determined to be snug in this jumper all throughout the winter season despite the not-so-flattering fit. Crewneck jumpers are another must-have, and this month I was lucky enough that my mum got me one as a gift. This charcoal crewneck by Subtitled is the perfect basic and has been welcomed into my wardrobe with open arms. It goes with absolutely everything and I just know it will be super timeless and I'll wear it until it falls apart.

Lastly we have what I would call the wild card: a red Dazie midi-skirt from The Iconic. I bought this piece for a concert that I am no longer attending, but lucky for me I've already worn it tons!! I find it really easy to dress down for more casual occasions but am also excited to get the opportunity to go to town styling it up.

now i promise i will start saving :)
